To be honest, it does sound odd. But I never knew about Valentine's Day until I came into contact with the Westerners, so I don't know the exact purpose of Valentine's Day other than the fact that people tend to be more affectionate than usual on that day.

Personally speaking, though, I think certain displays of romance should indeed be private.
