[The inn room is poorly lit, probably just whatever light from the outside that could get through the curtains. Darjeeling the Houndoom can be seen lying at the bed's feet, just beside the owner of the pokegear.

Beatrice looks like she hasn't had a good night sleep in some days, even when she woke up 5 days ago. Her eyes are puffy, but there is no evidence of crying. She does look rather upset.]

Good night... I... just wanted to tell everyone I am awake... and that I am fine.

[She pauses, struggling with something inside...finaly, she frowns, and looks away for a moment.]

I wish to ask to you, all of you who might know the answer... could you please tell me, what is a son? How... how does having a son feel? Please...

[The feed cuts abruptly.]

[He pauses.]

[He bites his thumb and looks like there's more he's not saying, appearing to be rather uncomfortable for several seconds.]

...Having a son means realizing that there is something in the world that is more important than anything else, no matter what. Having a daughter would be very much the same, I've no doubt.

I don't know... but if I close my eyes and think of it, it feels real again...

Yes... I'm in the inn, with Darjeeling.

I...was honestly worried at first about what he might think of me. But now that I've gotten a chance I wouldn't have had back home...it's really not so bad.

Even if I have no idea what I'm doing as a father.

Giving birth...?

[Her expression looks pained for a moment.] N-no, I... I meant having a son in your arms. Being a mother.

[Lets out a small, slightly amused smile with the last question.] I am not the Golden Witch, she is her own person... I am Beatrice, a human.

Is that the way you feel, Cecil...? Is that what you feel when you think of your son?

Would you like some company? We can talk in person, it's easier that way.

I feel this way even when not thinking of him. With his birth, I finally had a family. Even if he'd not become such a wonderful person, I'd owe him forever for that.

I suppose it depends on the mother... one might say that the pain of labor had grown to pleasure and love, while another might say that it had grown into more pain.

[His voice is hollow and soft.]

You look uncannily like her. Is there a reason for that?

Having a son... Or having kids in general-- See, it's complicated!

Sure, you worry about them all the time -- whether they eat enough, what the eat or wear, what games they play and with whom, whether they go to sleep at proper hours, whether you're being a good role model of them, whether you're not giving them enough -- or too much -- freedom... That and much more. It's like you stop thinking about yourself at all, 'cause you've gotta think about someone else -- someone much less experienced, too. You take care of them and want the best for them and can't even be sure if they appreciate it!

[He makes a pause, considering something. Then, he beams.]

... But when you see them smile and hear them laugh... When you see they're happy and you're the one who helped them feel that way... Hell, words can't describe that. It just feels like being on cloud nine!

I have yet to see one back home, but yes, they do! Nowadays, however, they tend to spend most of their time watching people from afar, or so I've heard, aru.

[His face takes on a calm expression.]

It's rare that she has to fight to find words to say, but this is one of those times. Congrats, Mommy!Beatrice, you've brought a rare reaction from your child. Even with Beatrice's claims that she herself was the original Beatrice, and the Beatrice that came after--even if she's thrown away what she once acknowledged as her human life to become Beatrice--

Her hand clenches around the device. She's forgiven everyone--the family, Battler, Kinzo--everyone involved with what had happened back then, however...

... She cuts off the feed abruptly, throwing the device in the process. ]
