The boy was afraid because at first because for all of his life... He always clung to someone else for help instead of standing on his own two feet. But through various situations on his journey, he had made many allies with people he wouldn't had expected... And had managed to reunite with his friends too.

Even though he was still a small fry... Throughout his journey, he was starting to learn what strength really was. You can't rely on some vague hope for everything, you need the determination to carry things through no matter what.
